Where is the Friendship Center located?

  • From I-83 - EXIT 30A Colonial Park.  Go east on Rt. 22 Jonestown Road past the Colonial Park Mall on left.  At third intersection, turn left on Devonshire Road.  Proceed 1/4 mile and turn right onto Commons Drive. The Friendship Center is straight ahead.
  • From I-81S - EXIT Paxtonia.  Exit ramp to Rt. 22, Jonestown Rd.  Turn right (west) on Rt. 22 and go 1 ½ miles to Devonshire Road intersection. Turn right on Devonshire Road.  Proceed 1/4 mile and turn right onto Commons Drive.  The Friendship Center is straight ahead.
  • From I-81N - EXIT Paxtonia.  Turn left off exit ramp to Rt. 22, Jonestown Road.  Turn right (west) on Rt. 22 and go 1 ½ miles to Devonshire Road intersection. Turn right on Devonshire Road.  Proceed 1/4 mile and turn right onto Commons Drive.  The Friendship Center is straight ahead.

Do you need to be a resident to use the Friendship Center or to become a member?
The Friendship Center is open to everyone – non-residents and residents of Lower Paxton Township. We offer a variety of options to suit your lifestyle and budget. Additionally, anyone can become a member.

What payment options are available for memberships?
You may pay for your membership using cash, personal check (with photo ID), Visa, or Master Card.

We also offer an Annual Membership Payment Plan, which is directly debited from your bank account. The payment plan, also known as an Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT), is only available for the purchase or renewal of annual memberships.   The monthly fee is automatically deducted from your personal checking or savings account. 

Our monthly memberships (3, 6, and 9) must be paid in full and in advance.

How old must my child be to stay at the Friendship Center without adult supervision?
Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 16 years old or older to use the Friendship Center facilities.  Children, eight years of age and under shall be accompanied by a parent or guardian 16 years old or older at all times unless the child is in a supervised recreation program, or is under the supervision of the babysitters in the babysitting room. 
 
Are all Members and day pass users allowed to use the Fitness Center and FitZone?
Members are encouraged to complete an orientation session with a staff member.   These orientations are free to members.  The Fitness Center is only for members/day pass users 13 years or older.  The FitZone is for members/day pass users 11 years or older.

What types of programs are offered at the Friendship Center?
We offer a variety of programs for all ages and interests. Choose from preschool, youth and teen, aerobics, spin-it, aquacise, adult sports and leisure, bus trips, arts and crafts, sport leagues, swim lessons,  and much more. Members of the Friendship Center receive discounted rates on most programs.

When is the Program Guide Published?
The Program Guide is the comprehensive source of information for all activities offered at the Friendship Center and in the park system.  It is published quarterly for winter, spring, summer, and fall, and is mailed to Lower Paxton Township residents and members of the Friendship Center. It contains all of the programs offered along with the dates and fees. 

If you do not receive a copy of the Program Guide, pick one up at the Friendship Center or ask to be placed on our mailing list so that you don’t miss out on your favorite activities.  There are activities and programs for every age group, regardless of ability level.

How can I receive the latest updates on news, programs, and events at the Friendship Center?
Visit our website frequently to view programs, new services, weather related closings and cancellations, details about upcoming special events, and much more! 

Our quarterly Program Guide also provides a complete update on programs for all ages, our special events, and upcoming specials.

Can I get a refund for a recreation program or class? 
Full refunds will be gladly issued if the Parks and Recreation Office is notified before the first day of any multi-session program. A prorated refund will be issued for any requests after the first class date from the date the office is notified. Refunds for one-day activities and all bus/van trips are not possible during or after the event. Full bus trip refunds are given if substitute(s) can be found at any time before the trip date.  If substitutes cannot be found, refunds can only be given up to four weeks before the trip date. Refunds take about 3 weeks to process and are mailed to the original payer.

Why would my program be cancelled?
All programs take place assuming minimum numbers are met. If registration does not meet the stated minimum, we will cancel the program within 24 hours before it begins. In this case, participants receive a full-refund. The Friendship Center and the Parks and Recreation Department reserve the right to cancel activities.

Will I be notified if I am accepted when I mail or fax my registration?
We will be happy to notify you if a self-addressed stamped envelope is included. If not, no news is good news.

How can I register for program?
3 WAYS TO REGISTER . . .

  • BY MAIL — Complete the registration form below and mail with payment to the L.P. Parks and Recreation, 5000 Commons Drive, Harrisburg PA, 17112. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you want confirmation of your registration. Note: Mail-in registrations are not processed until 5:00 p.m. on the specified day of registration unless participant phones in on the day registration begins to activate registration earlier.
  • BY PHONE — Call with your credit card (Visa or Master Card) registration, during operating hours - 657-5635.
  • WALK-IN — Registrations accepted at the Friendship Center.

Are gift certificates available?
Give the gift of health for birthdays, holidays or special occasions! Gift certificates are available in dollar amounts and may be used towards passes, activities, personal training, massage and programs.

Does the Friendship Center have Birthday Party Packages?
Yes!  Call the Friendship Center for our current rates and specials.

Can I purchase discount tickets to amusement parks and ski resorts at the Friendship Center?
Tickets are sold at the Parks and Recreation Department at the Friendship Center between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday only.  Cash, Visa and Master Card are the only form of payment accepted.  During the summer months select from amusement parks and other destinations.  Over the winter, discount ski tickets to area resorts are available for purchase.  Our ticket prices and locations are available in our Program Guide, our website and by calling the Friendship Center.
