An introduction to the Village of Linglestown and ongoing roadway improvements within the village.

Linglestown

Linglestown 1943

The Village of Linglestown was founded in 1765 as the Town of St. Thomas by Thomas Lingle.  It is older than Lower Paxton Township, which was chartered in 1767.  As a village, Linglestown is unincorporated and thus, part of the Township.  The village has served for nearly 250 years as a central point of transit.

Linglestown proper is home to many 18th and 19th century buildings.  In the center of the village square, the intersection of two state highways, stands a flagpole erected in 1906 as a war memorial.  It is the source of much local pride and community identity.

Linglestown contains about 1,500 households and several small businesses.  The Village is intersected by Linglestown (SR 39) and Mountain Roads.  Mountain Road is a primary route to I-81 and SR 22 (Allentown Blvd.). Linglestown Road, to the east, provides access to I-81 at the Manada exit and, to the west, intersects with Front Street and SR 322 at its Susquehanna River terminus. Blue Mountain Parkway, which runs from west of the village square northward, is one of the few roads crossing Blue Mountain east of the Susquehanna River.

To accommodate large volumes of vehicular traffic, Linglestown and Mountain Roads, within the village, are now subject to complete reconstruction.  This portion the the Lower Paxton Township web site has been established to provide information on roadway improvements.
