Jr Camp Counselor in Training
Counselor-in-Training (CIT) volunteer
Our Junior Camp Counselor Program offers teens ages 13-15 the chance to gain leadership skills, hands-on experience working with children, and exposure to camp operations in a fun and supportive environment. Junior Counselors assist senior camp staff in organizing and leading activities while learning key skills in teamwork, communication, and child supervision. This program is ideal for responsible, energetic youth who are interested in developing mentorship and teamwork skills while preparing for future roles as paid counselors. We accept (1) one Junior Counselor per camp each year. Interested youth should submit a Letter of Interest to the Program Manager no later than March 15th and selections will be made by April 30th.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be 13-15 years old at the start of Summer Camp (June 15, 2026)
- Willing to commit to (3) three days per week for a minimum of (5) five weeks (participants may choose to attend all (8) eight weeks of camp)
- Must submit a Letter of Interest explaining why they want to join the program and what they hope to gain
- Required to obtain the following (3) three PA volunteer clearances: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (which is a signed waiver you will be provided with if selected)
- Must complete staff CPR certification class with Lower Paxton Parks & Rec or on your own providing a copy of the certificate to the Program Manager
- Must attend staff orientation
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Assist counselors with daily activities, games, and crafts
- Help supervise and engage campers in a positive, respectful manner
- Learn and model appropriate safety and behavioral guidelines
- Set up and clean up activity areas
