Property owners can request the installation of a new streetlight on publicly owned streets. Please keep in mind the following when considering a request:
- A petition signed by at least 70 percent of the property owners within 250 feet of the requested streetlight location must accompany the streetlight application (see online form below). Property owners signing the petition must be aware that they will be charged an allocable share for the annual electricity cost for the streetlight.
- Property owners must sign the petition, not tenants or temporary residents.
- Streetlight fees are billed annually as an addendum to a property owner’s real estate taxes. The established rate is $250 annually, allocated to property owners within 250 feet of the requested streetlight location.
- Should the Township deny the streetlight request, petitioners can apply directly to PPL Utilities. However, the petitioners will be responsible for all costs, including installation, maintenance, and electricity.
If you have questions about requesting a streetlight, you can call 717-657-5615 or roads@lowerpaxton-pa.gov.
